In 1999 Crossroads Baptist Church engaged in a new method of fulfilling the "Great Commission" by launching it's audio tape ministry. Since that time the Church has seen it's tape ministry grow to include over 700 taped sermons and adult Sunday school lessons covering a wide range of subjects. In March of 2001 Crossroads was led to begin a video ministry and the Lord has truly blessed the project as various sermons and Sunday school lessons appear each Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. on the local cable tv station (channel 9) here in Wiggins.

The media ministry is handled, primarily, by Steve Sanders with much help and encouragement from others in the congregation. Steve enjoys utilizing the creative inclination God has so graciously given him to help introduce and spread the message of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As God leads and directs him to the content of each week's program it has been an unspeakable blessing to watch Him move and work in the lives of others through our media ministry. Steve looks forward with great anticipation to the work ahead and the difference that will be made in people's lives by the power of Jesus Christ.

Biblical Counseling

2Pe 1:3 [The Lord Jesus Christ’s] divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.

All counseling, no matter the type or form it takes, seeks to bring about change in the counselee. The real question is, “What kind of change does the counselor hope to achieve?” Secular counseling viewpoints are varied and too numerous to list. Added to this problem is the ever changing views of psychology on what constitutes a counseling issue. Many behaviors judged to be abnormal in the 1980's are now considered normal. Amazingly, many behaviors have become normal simply because more people are practicing the behavior. This is not so with biblical counseling.

Biblical counseling has a standard, the Word of God. This standard is not dependant on anything other than the mind of our Creator who designed us and knows what is best for us in all situations. Biblical counseling also has a goal; the two greatest commandments are to love God supremely and love others sacrificially. These two commandments comprehend all of the problems mankind faces. Note carefully the scripture verse quoted above. The Lord makes a promise; in his unlimited power, he has given all believers all they need for life and godliness. The term “life” encompasses all we experience on a daily basis, and godliness is the goal and proper end of all men.

Genuine, biblical, Christianity is not a stranger to helping mankind find lasting answers for the problems they encounter. Jesus Christ is called the Wonderful Counselor in Isaiah 9:6. Christians have been counseling mankind for thousands of years and guiding them to the only real answers to their problems. Psychology and related forms of counseling are the “new kids on the block” and cannot give lasting help because they deny God’s diagnosis of the problem and the cure found in His Word. Is it not reasonable that if we are made and designed by God that He alone would understand us completely? Is it not also reasonable that only He could give us real answers to the problems that plague us?

All the problems of thought, communication and action have answers for those who will seek God’s counsel. Anxiety, fear, parental and marital problems, depression, eating disorders, child problems such as ADD and ADHD, just to name a few, can all be addressed and cured by the answers found in God’s Word.
